Happy Hour at HG in Buenos Aires

by MPI Traveler on January 10, 2013

Traveling to Buenos Aires?  Looking for a great place for Happy Hour?  Come to HG at Hotel Fierro in the Palermo district.

On Tuesdays through Saturdays from 6pm-8pm Hernán Gipponi serves the best happy hour in town featuring Argentine inspired drinks and a savory selection of tapas.  Hernán Gipponi brings to Palermo his cosmopolitan experience nurtured in some of the most prestigious restaurants in the world, such as the Guggenheim Bilbao and Quique Dacosta’s El Poblet in Denia, Valencia, both recipients of two Michelin Stars. Now back in Buenos Aires, he offers a new Argentine cuisine that combines local textures, tastes and temperatures with a highly creative flair, all in his ground floor restaurant with garden views. Sommelier Martin Bruno offers his expertise in pairing wine from Fierro’s on-premises cellar, all collated under the discerning eye of Executive Sommelier and President of the Argentine Sommelier Association Andres Rosberg.

We spent three nights at the Fierro in Buenos Aires in late December, on our way from Mendoza back to the US. We had exquisite breakfasts & dinners at the Fierro, the location is quiet, so we slept well after a day walking around the sites, and the A/C worked a treat (it was summer in the city!). Its an easy ride from the domestic airport (Newberry), and the staff were more than helpfull. If you go around the Christmas/New Year holidays, book early, Buenos Aires is like the United Nations over the holidays!

Owen and I joined friends for an amazing dinner at Hernán Gipponi’s between Christmas and New Years. The food and the service are beyond. I took some photos of some of their fresh fish presentations and I will try to post. They also do the breakfast for Fierro and it is without a doubt the best breakfast in the WORLD.

What a great experience visiting Argentina, spending time in Buenos Aires with all the great night life and wonderful stores to browse and shop in, and yes, Hotel Fierro is exquisite, not to mention unbelievable food in the hotel restaurant. Then a quick flight to Bariloche and you are in a scenic wonderland, the Andes mountains, beautiful lakes and rivers and some of the most stunning scenery. Year round fun, skiing & snowshoeing in winter, hiking and some of the best fishing in the world and fantastic golfing. Last but not least, the food and wine, it just doesn’t get any better than this. I go to Argentina every chance I get

Travel hint: When going from the U.S. to Bariloche you have to switch airports in Buenos Aires, and they are not even close to each other. Plan your trip to spend the night in B.A. and stay at the Hotel Fierro. Then you can enjoy this great happy hour, get a great night’s sleep and eliminate all that stress of trying to make a horrible connection!
