3 Days in Carmel – Part 1

by Chip (aka Mark) Graham on February 12, 2016

Carmel is a nice two hour drive from San Francisco if you leave during non-peak traffic times, which we did. We arrived at our hotel at about 3PM which was perfect. We stayed at the Carmel Garden Inn, which is a small, lovely hotel just a block from the main tourist district that is very dog friendly. This is our second stay here and is our favorite place to stay when we bring our Airedale Terrier Zephyr with us.

Z on Deck with Plants There are 10 rooms, most of which are dog friendly. Five of the rooms are patio suites and have private patios, which is great even without a dog! The hotel has a beautiful garden area with sitting areas and tables nestled between the trees and plants which provide a perfect space for enjoying the complimentary afternoon wine, cheese and homemade spreads or the very nice complimentary breakfast which features fresh fruit, breakfast breads, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and a special warm dish cooked on site each day. The hosts, Susan, Dennis, Mary, Betty, Curtis and Julian are all delightful and so welcoming.

Since the PGA Tour was going on, we decided to stay in for dinner and avoid the crowds in town that night. We ordered a nice pizza from Allegro Gourmet Pizzeria which was very good and went well with the local wines we bought at Carmel Surf and Sand General Store about two blocks from the hotel.
